Falcons 35, Packers 14: A Home Opener to Forget

Falcons 35, Packers 14: A Home Opener to Forget

Nothing Went Right

That one hurt. The Packers had won 13 straight home openers, and Thursday night the winless Falcons walked into Lambeau and ended that streak with a 35-14 blowout. It actually started fine. Xavier McKinney picked off Michael Penix Jr. early and Green Bay went up 7-0. After that, Atlanta scored 27 straight points and the game was basically over. A blocked field goal right before halftime turned what should have been a tie game into a 10 point hole, and the Packers never got close again.

The Numbers Tell the Story

Bijan Robinson ran for 194 yards and Drake London caught nine passes for another 194, and the Packers had no answer for either one. Meanwhile Green Bay managed just 17 rushing yards all night, which made the offense completely one dimensional. Jordan Love dropped back 54 times, and when a defense knows you have to throw, it’s a long night. Even LaFleur opened his press conference by calling it a humbling night, according to Packers.com. At 1-2, this team needs to figure out the run game fast, because nobody’s winning many games throwing 50 times a week.
